The Center Funds Eight Local Organizations for Tobacco Advocacy Work

The Center for Black Health & Equity (The Center) is excited to announce the funding of eight community-based organizations as part of a groundbreaking initiative to build capacity for advocacy and address health inequities across Tobacco Nation and beyond.

This ambitious initiative is designed to address critical health inequities and empower local groups to tackle the social, political, and environmental barriers that impact the health of their communities. This funding will help these organizations build their capacity to influence policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) changes—all critical elements needed to create sustainable improvements in health outcomes.

Following an equity-centered application process and recommendations from our advisory council, The Center will partner with the following community-based organizations for this initiative:

  • Black Mental Health Village
  • BlaqOut, Inc.
  • Breathe Easy South Carolina
  • Community Education Group
  • Embrace All Latino Voices
  • H.E.A.R.T. Coalition
  • Making It Count Community Development Corporation
  • Minority Health Coalition Madison County

This cohort is steeped in community assets that reflect the demographic expertise and needed resources to tackle leading factors driving disparities in Tobacco Nation, including but not limited to:

  • access to mental health services
  • culturally responsive outreach networks
  • relationships with local stakeholders

“The Center for Black Health & Equity is pleased to support community organizations in building their capacity to address health inequity,” said Delmonte Jefferson, executive director. “Through this work, community-based organizations are empowered to use their understanding of the unique concerns of their communities to create meaningful change.”

By investing in capacity building, the Center supports these organizations and amplifies the voices of local leaders who understand their unique health challenges.

Congratulations to the eight grantees! You are all part of a powerful step forward in empowering local leaders to create sustainable, positive change in public health.
